Why You Need Spinal Fracture / Trauma Surgery?

Step 1: Anesthesia

You may be given intravenous sedation or general anesthesia to put you to sleep during your surgery.

Step 2: Spine Fracture/Trauma Surgery

Depending on the fracture pattern, the surgeon may customize your procedure. They can perform one of the following types of surgeries:

Vertebroplasty: In this type of surgery, a special cement is injected into a fractured vertebra to help reduce fracture/injury pain and regain mobility

Kyphoplasty: With kyphoplasty, the surgeon inserts and inflates a balloon to create an opening for injecting special cement into your spine

Spinal Fusion Surgery: This procedure connects two or more vertebrae to hold them in the right position and keep them from moving until they fuse

Recovery

Spine fracture/trauma surgery recovery can take about 4 to 6 weeks. You may feel pain after the surgery but you can relieve it with medication. After the surgery, home care may include incision wound care and working with a physical therapist. Avoid any strenuous activities or heavy lifting. Follow your doctor’s instructions on when you can resume certain activities and go back to work.
